• During the first nine months of 1986, Volvo Truck Corporation increased its European heavy truck market share to more than 15%, while its medium truck sector share rose to 6.9%.
The total market for heavy trucks in Western Europe rose by 7% up until the end of September, and during this period, Volvo sold an overall total of 20,000 trucks.
Despite a continuing decline in the US heavy truck (class 8) sector — down 17% during the first nine months of 1986 — Volvo White still managed to increase its market penetration to 9.7%, with sales of 7,736 trucks.
The number of new vehicle orders for Volvo Truck Corporation rose by 15% during the first nine months of the year, with delivery of FL models, launched in the autumn of last year, continuing at a high level.
Over 10,000 FL models were delivered to up until the end of September.
Northampton-based operator C Butt has invested 21.5 million in 27 Volvo 6x2 FL10 tractive units and 39 semi-trailers for use on a distribution contract for Linfood Cash and carry.
The 220kW(299hp) artic units are plated at 36-tonnes GCW will operate out of the new Linford warehouse complex at Wellingborough.
