TWO ADVANTAGES claimed by Lawrence David Ltd of Crowland, Peterborough, for its curtainsided trailer are a completely clear deck and positive load retention.
Normally, tensioned curtainsiders need centre posts to support the roof and make it strong enough to take the tension on the curtains when they are pulled tight, With the Lawrence David design, the curtain strain is taken by removable side pillars.
Hinged from the side pillars are lightweight steel-framed gates, panelled with square-mesh grilles. These hold the load in place without throwing strain on the side curtains. The gates hinge about the pillars or they can be removed altogether.
