Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A SLIDING fifth-wheel coupling Which can be r-k adapted for most popular makes of prime movers has been announced by Taskers. This enables an operator quickly to position the tractor coupling such that the centre line of the locking jaws is 10 in. or 21 in. forward of the rear driving axle.

The fifth-wheel complete with extension ramps, trunnions and subframe slides along two sloping rails which are bolted to the tractive unit subframe. Manual adjustment is made by means of a screw thread which can be rotated by the hexagonal handle used to raise and lower the trailer landing gear.

Apart from adjusting the position of the coupling in relation to the rear axle it is also raised and lowered on the sloping rails; this means that suitable prime movers will accept king pin positions to BSAIJ3 or T3Q standards without the need for unbolting any moving parts.

The sliding subframe is secured by automatic spring-loaded pins to ensure fast, positive location in the main subframe. The price for the new fifthwheel complete with extension ramps only, but less mudguards, brake gear and equipment, is £148.
