It's been a slow start to the sales calendar, according to Chris Wright, managing director of Commercial Vehicle Auctions. At Doncaster's first sale of the year a 1997 Mercedes-Benz Actros 1835 4x2 with a fleet cab fetched £17,500 but it's impossible to say if this will set a benchmark for Actros prices. CVA will be able to gain a better idea when several other similarly specced Actroses already in the pipeline come under the hammer. However, Wright is becoming increasingly concerned about the impact the second-life leasing of three-year-old ex-contract trucks is having on the used market. "They're going out for as little as £100 a week," he says.
