CAMPAIGNING TRUCK driver Barrie Tozer says he is disappointed by the attitude of supermarket Tesco, which he believes has broken promises made to him over policy at its RDCs.
Tozer, who runs the Truckersworld website, contacted the chain last autumn following widespread complaints from drivers about a new policy which means they have to leave their trucks when unloading at the supermarket's RDCs and wait in rooms with basic facilities.
He met Tesco's transport direct or Alex Laffey last year (CM 20 October 2005) and received a promise that the retailer would examine the facilities provided for drivers and its policy on leaving the vehicles.
However, Tozer is worried that progress has stalled. He says his letters are now going unanswered. "I've contacted them three or four times recently asking what they are doing but they've completely ignored me," he says.
Tozer thinks Tesco's initial enthusiasm may have been a diversionary tactic. "I have a horrible feeling I was used," he says.
