Orwell truck park gets new lifeline
THE BOSS OF ORWEI t Crossing Lorry Park says it has managed to continue trading after turning its attention away from lorry drivers and focusing on other modes of transport.
CM reported last year (26 November 20(9) that the truck park was in danger of closing down because HGV drivers were choosing to park in free, albeit unsecure areas, and putting the Suffolk business under financial strain.
However, Karl Rout now says it might make a proftt this year due to the regular business it is picking up at weekends: "It's been a hell of a struggle, to be honest," he says. "We did a carvery offer, used a PR company and have done advertorials in caravan and bike magazines, anything that's not lorry-oriented. We have picked up our Friday, Saturday and Sunday trade, which is keeping us going. We are up to 500 meals a day on Sundays and are probably' bringing in about an extra £15,000 a month."
