BULMER'S LOGISTICS, the family-run bulk and container fleet operator, is to cut 50 jobs from its 350-strong workforce.
The company, which has its head office at the container port of Teesside and further depots in Hull, Immingham, Malton and Ipswich, blames the cuts on current economic conditions causing a downturn in customer volumes.
Managing director Jonathan Bulmer tells CM: "Volumes from most of the customers are down about 10% and we don't see it getting any brighter in January "We are taking 50 drivers out across Teesside and Immingham. We also have a depot in Malton with not many vehicles there — they will be dispersed — and we are looking at administrative roles across the group. too.
"Next year will be all about survival." he adds.
Bulmees currently runs and owns more than 250 trucks but is looking at cutting that figure by 40.
