On the separate issue of refrigerated trailers, pressure group Transfrigoroute is campaigning for a controlled temperature standard new, longer length of 13.8m for refrigerated semi-trailers across Europe. It claims cold air can't properly circulate around pallets in a regular refrigerated semi-trailer, leading to hotshots in the load.
Transfrigoroute says that it doesn't want the 33-pallet limit increased. Trials of refrigerated trailers up to 15m long are being conducted in Europe and Ogel's Big CoolMAXX extended trailer has space for 36 pallets per level, which equates to a total payload of 72 Euro-Pallets (see CM 9 October).
