HEAVY .f RUCKS moving in and out of west London on the busy Greenford Road are disturbing local residents so much that Ealing council has commissioned a study into HGV traffic.
However, it has acknowledged the importance of road transport. Labour councillor Ray Wall, responsible for transport and planning policy. says:" It would be easy to take a populist negative stance regarding aspects of HGV movements, but 1 would like to remind people that most of our everyday living requirements food, petrol, waste products and so on arc moved via HGVs on a daily basis, and 2.5% of the London workforce is directly employed in the organisation and distribution of freight."
People living near the road have complained to councillors about the noise and vibration caused by trucks running through the night and Conservative councillor Jason Stacey has criticised the council for not doing enough.
Wall refutes this."The council is sympathetic to the plight of residents along this busy stretch of the Greenford Road and will endeavour to do all it can to mitigate the negative effects of the increase in traffic and congestion," he says.
