MORE THAN 82% of truck drivers surveyed in a recent poll say they have never received any training on how to avoid being a victim of freight crime.
The national survey, carried out by the University of Central Lancashire’s Crime Reduction Unit, asked truck drivers questions about freight crime in the haulage industry. Nearly two-thirds (64%) said they had been a victim of freight crime, with curtain slashing, goods theft and fuel siphoning being the most common incidents.
Only half of all respondents felt safe on UK roads ‘most of the time’, while over a third (38.5%) felt freight crime was only treated as a ‘small problem’ by the government.
