A TRIAL programme for evaluating competitive types of double deckers is now being planned by the National Bus Company. Its Maidstone and District subsidiary is to take delivery of five Ailsa front-engined clouble deckers and five MCWMetropolitans. The buses will„pe run side by side on a seIe9tioo of the company's routes, Maidstone has been selected Ilecause of its normal reauirement for high
bridge deckers and also for the ease with which vehicles operating there can be inspected by NBC hq staff.
The 10 Swedish-engined buses will also be studied in comparison with a batch of new Bristol VRTs, delivery of which is expected soon. The VRTs themselves will be the subject of some comparative analysis, as some will have a Gardner engine and some the Leyland 510 turbocharged unit.
