A PROPOSAL. to control the movement of heavy lorries in bad weather conditions has been dismissed as "impracticable" by the
Scottish Development -Department. Inverness county roads committee sought power to close a road to large and articulated vehicles when conditions were such that a lorry could easily block the road to other traffic which might otherwise be able to get through.
The Department has been resisting restrictions proposed by the committee since March. Originally, the committee wanted to limit the use of the PerthInverness and Fort WilliamMallaig roads by heavy loads all the year round. The Department argued that the serious interference with the workings of industry and the complex legislation required would not be justified in view of the low accident rate.
