VOLVO's eight-wheel chassis first introduced at the Commercial Motor Show two years ago will be going into volume production early in 1975. This was announced in London last week by Volvo AB's truck marketing director, Mr Bertil Bengtsson.
Mr Bengtsson said that according to the SMMT Ailsa Trucks Ltd sold an alltime record of 275 Volvo trucks and buses in the UK during August. A record number of 207 32-ton tractive units entered service during the month. This, said Mr Bengtsson, maintained Volvo's position as the biggest selling single make in the British maximum-weight truck market. The figures gave Volvo a penetration of 18.2 per cent of this market for August and overall 17.1 per cent for the year so far.
In addition, Volvo claims, that it is now the third biggest seller in the 24-ton six-wheeker market. Last month a new parts complex housing stocks worth £3.5m was opened and in 1975 this will be expanded to a Om stock holding to service UK operators.
