• Three of the UK's largest regional independent courier firms — United Parcel Services (Midlands) of Leicester, Esher Park Deliveries of Slough and Blue Line Services of Glasgow — have amalgamated to form a new parcels distribution company.
The new firm — United Parcel Services (Holdings) — will have its head office in the Midlands and nine distribution depots throughout the UK served by more than 80 vehicles. UPS (Holdings) already has a turnover of £3 million per annum and new distribution centres, along with the acquisition of other local operators are already planned.
The amalgamation has been promoted by Mercia Venture Capital of Birmingham.
