GOODS IN TRANSIT • There are insurance repercussions in the recent change in the rules concerning the delivery and collection of goods from UK ports. Before September 12, an lnternatioal Operator's Licence was needed for these UK feeder journeys to and from the ports. Now, ordinary Standard Operator's Licence-holders can do the work. RHA Insurance Services points out that they must obtain full UK CMR Goods in Transit insurance because this is not covered by their existing policies.
The amount of liability imposed on the haulier under CMR (the contract for the international carriage of goods by road) is far higher than that for UK domestic traffic.
Operators who want further clarification can ring RHA Insurance Services on 021-632 4211.
