Christopher Jackson MEP campaigned for 17 months to change these rules for UK operators, following my bringing this anomaly to his attention. This was despite opposition from the RHA to his proposals, as reported in a last year's issue of CM. Mr Jackson kept me up-to-date on his progress and I have copies of all the correspondence he received from various ministers on the subject.
We now have the RHA claiming in CM, September 6, that they pressed for these changes — presumably hoping like the police, as this seems to be the only colour people take notice of and remember, it may be one of you stuck there one day which can be frightening when you think that to impress prospective new members how well they have done!
Small operators like myself might find it more advantageous to air their there are only a couple of inches between you and 70mph lumps of very tough metal.
