• The dispute between the Transport and General Workers Union and P&O Trans European stepped up a gear this week after it was announced that more strikes are planned.
A -18,,G spokesman told CM that the 24-hour stoppage earlier this week (Monday) had 100% support from members and further industrial action is on the cards.
An overtime ban is planned for this weekend, followed by a two-day strike next Monday and Tuesday.
The spokesman adds: "it is clear that the ball is very firmly in P&O's court on this issue."
The dispute is over planned new contracts of employment which affect drivers across eight sites. The union maintains that the new deal amounts to an 11% pay cut.
But P&G Trans European disagrees, branding the strike action as "counterproductive".
