The Traffic Commissioners in this Area Have Several Difficult Tasks to Face IT is estimated that nearly 2,000 applications for public-service-vehicle licences have been received by the Northern Area Traffic Commissioners. Amongst the road-service licence applications is a number in respect of new services.
The first public sitting was arranged for Thursday last at Newcastle, to include hearing of the' application of Newcastle Corporation for permission to continue, without modification, 18 existing local services.
The Comrniasioners hold their second public sitting at West Hartlepool on May 4th, when the corporation's application in Aspect of seven existing local
services will be heard. The objector in this case is United Automobile Services, Ltd.
In addition to the application for sanction to run tours from various centres, received from the Northern General Traniport Co., Ltd., George Galley, the Leeds-Newcastle Omnibus Co., the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., and United Automobile Services, Ltd., there are applications for new ser
vices from Majestic Saloon Coaches (Newcastle and London), Ltd.; the United Company and Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., jointly, for a service between Newcastle and Liverpool ; the United company for an express Newcastle-CarIisle service, a new Stockton-Maltby service, a new Middlesbrough-Barrow-inFurness service, and a new AshingtonLynemouth local service, and from National Coachways, Ltd., for alternate routes on their London-Newcastle-Glasgow service.
Pour concerns jointly operating a Liverpool-Newcastle service are applying for licence backing in respect of the Northern Area.
