Self-adhesive "labels", capable of indicating temperatures in the range 37 to 599deg C with an accuracy of + 1 percent—they change colour permanently when they reach their critical temperature — are made by the William Wahl Corporation and are suitable for use in refrigerated vehicles.
Known as "Temp-plate", these indicators will adhere to most clean, dry surfaces. The heat-sensitive element is hermetically sealed in a plastic covering which will resist degradation by solvents, fuels, grease, steam, etc.
As well as single units, elements can be obtained in sets of up to eight with different critical temperatures, so that the upper and lower limits of a temperature change can be determined.
