benefit from the start of the third bulk rail operation to emerge from the reorganisation of British Rail company Trainload Freight.
Trainload Freight West wants to be able to offer complete transport packages which will include rail-road operations. It expects to haul 35 million tonnes, the equivalent of 6,000 lorry loads each year.
It already has contracts with subcontractors to move steel out of the Brierley Hill railhead and into customers' premises. Expansion of bulk business as the company gears up for privatisation next September could lead to a shorthaul bonanza.
