fot • Maintenance
problems have led to the authorisation
on a licence held by Victor Lewis being cut from six to three vehicles by South Wales Deputy Traffic Commissioner Alan Jenkins.
Lewis, who trades as the Royal Riding School, of Llanharan, was appearing at a Cardiff disciplinary inquiry for the second time within a short period because of concern over his maintenance standards.
For Lewis, Colin Ward said the business had been in Operation for 25 years but there had been family problems recently, with two sons leaving the business. The vehicles had now been put in order and a driver defect reporting system had been adopted, although it was conceded this was not working as well as it should, said Ward.
For the future, Lewis was proposing to operate three rigids.
Curtailing the licence, Jenkins said he understood the reasons for the lapse, but there was no excuse. Lewis' livelihood had been at risk, said the Deputy Commissioner, and were it not for the expert advice that Lewis had received, he would have considered revoking the haulier's licence altogether.
