• Removals company Pickfords has recently started using the VDO Dayton satellite navigation system to help make life easier for its drivers.
The firm specified VDO's MS 4100 satellite navigation system for 32 recently purchased Daf trucks-14 LF45s and 18 LF55s. The vehicles went into service at the end of June.
"We compared specifications among the truck manufacturers and were offered the MS 4100s as part of a complete and integrated package from Oaf," says Pickfords company engineer Tony Bailey.
Although satnav systems have been used by Its sales force in the past, this is the first the Plckfords has kitted out any of its trucks, he adds. 'The navigational advantages are obvious to an operation such as ours, where drivers are visiting different addresses every day of the week. It also means there will be no more thumbing through maps, so we will see added bonuses in terms of enhanced safety and reduced stress for our drivers."
The decision to add satnav to its trucks was based on previous driver feedback, says Bailey, and although It's too early to tell how successful the implementation has been, he says he's confident drivers will appreciate It.
"It takes some of the stress away. Finding their way around is now one thing less to think about—they can just concentrate on the driving," he comments.
