They were gathered on Christmas Eve round the fire at "The Travellers' Rest," with only the run home between them and their Christmas joys.
The question being debated was: "What is the best Christmas fare'?" and opinions differed as to the relative attractions of joie and turkey.
Then from a quiet corner came the remark which closed the discussion with general laughter, for its author was a taxi driver from a town a few miles off; 'Best Christmas fare? Why, the fare that tips, o' course!"
