• Michael Whittle, former boss of international haulier Whittle International, has joined his old rival Assured Freight to develop eastern European business and strengthen ties with Greece, Turkey and the Middle East.
Whittle becomes divisional director of the London-based firm, with a seat on the board. He will also have "special responsibility" for Assured Freight's business in the Midlands, the North and Scotland.
After Whittle International collapsed in autumn 1989, the receiver sold the goodwill to Houser and the company regrouped as Whittle Houser. Michael Whittle joined the operation on a year's contract which ended last December.
