• Renault dealer Thompsons has launched a major expansion progra mine. The Hull-based firm has just extended its Hull workshop and acquired factory-owned dealerships in Billingham and Newcastle upon Tyne formerly operated by Renault Trucks North East. It already runs a site at Boroughbridge.
"Our Renault territory now stretches from Berwick-uponTweed to the Humber," says managing director Brian Silvey.
The acquisitions should lead to a big boost in Thompsons' new truck sales, "We sold over 120 in 2001 and we could reach 25o this year— maybe more, if we really have a go at it," says SiIvey.
"There's a lot of potential on Teeside and Tyneside," he adds. "We did well with used trucks in 2001 and sold 150. We should do nearer 170 to 18o this year. "Most of the ones we've been selling are buy-backs, and for all those people who go on about buy-backs we've been able to use the system to obtain quality trucks at a sensibh price. We know many of then because we've been servicing then for the past three years."
