• The DVLA has called in its lawyers to look at a truck driver's spent drink-driving conviction after he complained that conflicting laws have destroyed his chances of work.
Huddersfield driver Stephen Deames was convicted of drink-driving 10 years ago following an accident in his can His conviction was 'spent' after five years under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act—but under the Road Traffic Offenders Act endorsements remain on driving licences for 11 years. Deames, who used to be an agency driver, says this has ruined his chances of finding work.
