representatives to be present at all promotional interviews was flatly repudiated by the management at a meeting of the National Joint Negotiating Committee last week. The trade union side are to consider what further action to take.
The payment of high-grade-duty pay to staff undertaking higher classification jobs on a temporary basis is in future to be made after four weeks instead of, as previously, after eight weeks. The trade union side wanted payment for additional responsibility to be made immediately.
A claim for 18 days leave instead of 12 days — for staff undertaking magisterial duties, was not conceded by management but the staff side were asked to provide evidence of difficulty, when the matter would be re-examined.
Claims for additional payment during annual leave, for higher expenses and allowances and for a paid holiday on New Year's Day were refused by management. The question of overtime payments and commuter allowances, and revised awards for examination successes, are to be further considered.
