• A new four-wheel drive 13-ton pry vehicle based on the Dodge D850 chassi has been introduced by Unipower Ltd Primarily intended for contractors am municipal concerns, the vehicle is provide( with a good road performance with just th rear axle engaged by means of a two-spec transfer box which gives a 1 to 1 ratio b the rear output shaft.
When four wheel-drive is required fo off-road work selection automaticall engages front and rear axles at a 2.1 to ratio via the transfer box. The two-spee, transfer box, mounted amidships, has juE recently been introduced by Kirksta Forge Engineering Ltd.
Also incorporated in the design is a nel front axle from Kirkstall plated at 4.5 ton and fitted with Kirkstall's own spiral bey( differential gears and main casing.
In order to provide adequate diff-housin clearance below the sump of the Perkin 6.354 engine for suspension deflection, th chassis-frame sits 7in. higher than on th normal K850. Additional clearance at ti front of the banjo casing has been provide by moving back the front axle position E that the wheelbase is now 10ft On. instev of 10ft Sin.
The weight of the converted vehicle about 6cwt heavier than standard.
