• A scheme to cut major overhaul costs and downtime has been announced by the diesel division of Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd.
Under the new Servex scheme, special Eagle diesel engine short blocks are available from vehicle distributors. This will bridge the gap between the availability of a complete service exchange engine built to a precise specification and the necessity of completely stripping and rebuilding, thus reducing the downtime period.
The new scheme has the attraction of readily available factory rebuilt engines with "as new" fits and clearances. Operators' existing exterior serviceable parts are transferred to the new short block so that the full engine can be quickly returned into service.
In addition to holding down costs, the Servex scheme enables the operator to estimate accurately the cost, because a standard fixed price will apply provided the returned engine is complete and no major part has suffered any apparent damage.
When supplied with an overhaul gasket kit the Servex scheme brings the major overhaul within the scope of many customers' own workshop capabilities.
As with all Eagle diesel engine service exchange unit supplies, the Servex block is guaranteed for six months.
