ONE OF THREE new London underground train designs under review recalls the lowheight double-deck bus which, despite "mind your head" warnings, was a common cause of cranial contusions. Like the bus, the train roof contour reduces headroom above the seats.
Incidentally, 133 Preservation Group, Grimsby, has an AEC Bridgemaster which was operated by GrimsbyCleethorpes Transport as a standard bus until 1974 when it was accidentally decapitated. It is now an open-top doubledecker.
Another experimental tube train design provides additional standing room but has some extra-wide single seats. I understand that it will be dedicated to Rochdale's favourite son.
