• Despite this week's jobloss announcement, Bedford's military vehicle production remains healthy.
Following the successful validation trials with the British Army, TM 6x6 load carriers are now being built at Dunstable as part of an order for over 1,000 vehicles for the Ministry of Defence.
Bedford displayed one at Aldershot with Edbro cargo tilt bodywork, but other body variants include a flat-bed self loader with Atlas crane or winch-version.
Ft is designed to carry 10 standard Nato pallets with a payload of 14 tonnes over its 24.4 tonnes GVW. Power comes from Bedford's 8.2-litre 151kW (202 hp) diesel unit through a "LI' 56-80 six-speed synchromesh gearbox with its 9.1:1 deep first gear ratio and two-speed GKN transfer box.
The latter has a synchro nised shift plus a differential lock.
All axles are GKN-built w duff-locks across and betwee the rear axles.
A three-leaf chevron sprir suspension pack keeps the TM's chassis low and in line with the 4X4 TM chassis fo cross-loading.
