TEESSIDE-BASED Bulmers Logistics has unveiled a five year plan to double turnover and create 250 jobs across the UK. The 210m expansion —carried out with the aid of Yorkshire Bank Finance—will see a doubling of the firm's fleet and the opening of a network of depots.
Established in the 1980s, Bulmers was founded as a family partnership based in Mahon, North Yorkshire, and was a working farm with a small fleet of agricultural trucks. Within a few years it had diversified into bulk liquid deliveries and was offering repair and servicing facilities for haulage trailers.
Last September the company, which now has its headquarters
at Teesside container port, opened two new depots to service the Humber region; one at Hull, the other at Immingham, near Grimsby. A third will open at Felixstowe early next month.
Bulmers now employs 350 staff to manage and drive a 250-vehicle fleet of Scanias, Oafs, Renaults and Mercedes. It also operates 24-hour workshops for contract clients.
Nick Scott, Bulmers' finance director, says: "We plan to grow 20% year on year and more than double our £26m turnover. Following Felixstowe, we will keep opening more depots at least until 2012."
By then the fleet should have grown to 500 with 600 staff nationwide.
