HYTHE, KENT-based Laser Transport International has reported turnaround pre-tax profits of £465,762 for 2006.
Despite highlighting tough trading conditions, Laser Transport managed to turn a £328,938 loss in 2005 into profit in the year to 31 December 2006. Turnover rose from £14.8m in 2005 to 115.3m.
A company spokesman says the UK government's inflexible stance in implementing EU legislation puts UK operators at a huge disadvantage when compared to their European competitors.
"This means there is an everpresent risk of price undercutting by European competitors not burdened with the same operating costs as those faced by operators in the UK," the spokesman adds.
However, the company highlights the fact that it achieved sustained growth in its core European groupage, distribution and logistics business, and performed strongly in its worldwide projects and freight forwarding divisions.
