A CALL for the Government to pay more attention to the problem of overnight lorry parking instead of the provisions of the Dykes Act was made this week by Mr Hugh Featherstone, directorgenera l of the Freight Transport Association. Speaking at the agm of the FTA's East Riding division, he said that the problems of lorries which parked overnight in residential areas were vital to anyone concerned with improving the environment.
The concept of a network of strategic, Rolls-Royce Motel parks should be abandoned, said Mr Featherstone. "In its place we should substitute a more modest, Heath Robinson approach of using what we have got, supplementing this where necessary with smaller lorry parks."
There were many car parks which were unused overnight together with thousands of miles of roads not in residential areas where lorries could be parked.
