The heater itself is an Eberspacher cylindrical unit about 2ft long and 7 inches in diameter. It has an electrically driven high-speed impeller at one end which blows air into a combustion chamber where a glow plug starts the combustion of gas oil sprayed into the vortex.
Air for heating is blown over the outer walls of the combustion chamber, Once started, combustion is self-sustaining and the heater generates 14,00 Btu/hour of heat.
A detachable box houses the complete heater package including a seven-gallon tank and heavy-duty 24V batteries. It is slung beneath the body or trailer amidships. Air is ducted in and out through insulated trunking from one side of the van to the other. The combustion feed and exhaust gases are separate from the heated system so there is no risk of contamination.
