M-way opens
A seven-mile section of M5, which has just been opened between Huntsvvorth, near Bridgwater, and Blackbrook, near Taunton, completes 316 miles of continuous motorway between Carlisle and the South West.
Import cuts
A cut of E1.25 per freight tonne in the cost of importing goods into London from the Far East is the result of the removal of a " post discharge" levy which was introduced in 1971 by the lines of the Far East Freight Conference.

Response to the " Middle East Highway " Seaspeed Ferry service to Jeddah has been better than the most optimistic forecasts, a spokesman for the company claimed this week. The first ro-ro ship left Felixstowe last week carrying construction equipment, cranes, cars, machines and bagged commodities.
Expansion for Western BRS Two modern warehouse units at Romsey, Southampton, have been bought by Western British Road Services to expand its storage and distribution facilities in Hampshire and Dorset.
The units, of 12,000 and 20,000 sqft are only three miles from the company's Southampton vehicle depot. Space not immediately being utilised by Western BRS is being leased on short or long term basis.
