LOADING pallets of a size not normally encountered led to an overloading fine for a Co Durham operator in Gateshead magistrates court on Monday.
In the case concerning the unaccustomed pallet sizes, Margaret Rose Kennedy, trading as Rosehill Trucking Cornpany, of Birtley, was the owner of a vehicle observed by a traffic examiner in September and which was diverted to a weighbridge.
Here it was found to exceed the gross plated weight of 11 tons by 1 l4cwt and the permitted weight on the rear axle of 7.5 tons by 1 ton 6cwt. There had been a previous similar conviction in Nottingham in 1974.
The owner was fined £75 for the axle overload and £50 for the gross overload, with £5 advocate's fee.
The driver, Mr G R Pinckney, of Newcastle upon Tyne, was fined £5 on each charge with £5 advocate's fee.
