• Tesco has ordered a computer-based communication and monitoring system for its supermarket transport fleet. The FleetWizard system operates over the NB3 mobile communications network.
Each truck is equipped with a mobile terminal—drivers report to the depot by punching a number into it. Different numbers represent a range of events such as a completed delivery or an unexpected delay. The system compares actual deliveries with scheduled times and can draw attention to possible late deliveries. FleetWizard incorporates two-way radio communication for more detailed messages.
Tesco drivers used to contact their depots by telephone but the new system has reduced the number of phone calls made. NB3 claims that FleetWizard can reduce driver hours by 4%,
cut delivery times and pay for itself in six months. Users pay a fixed monthly charge and can send as many messages as required
