• Pig farmers have picketed Asda's distribution centre near Wakefield for the second time over the supermarket chain's alleged failure to set enough British pork products.
A crowd of 100 angry farmers and their supporters, who picketed the Asda RDC are now warning that more demonstrations are planned.
Pig farmers are annoyed because Asda has finally admitted that only 80% of the pork it sells 'is British, after claiming in the past that the figure was 87%. The farmers say they are making a loss on every pig sold. Meryl Ward, a pig farmer from Gainsborough. Lincs, says: "I never though that I would be on a picket line but this is our only way of protesting. Asda has a corporate responsibility to support British products."
Asda is understood to be in negotiations with the National Pig Association about the farmers' concerns but Ward says that if nothing improves there will be further demonstrations at its RDCs.
Nobody from Asda was available for comment as CM went to press.
