Marathon LHT II
Goodyear presented its new Marathon LHT II low rolling resistance trailer tyre that the company believes reduces fuel consumption by 3-4% Around one third of rolling resistance comes from the drive axle, with 17% resistance attributed to the front axle. The trailer tyre's contact with the road contributes the remaining 50% making tyre choice over the trailer axles critical in reducing rolling resistance. The LHT II has been engineered using a new high silica tread compound with a wider contact patch and stronger shoulders to help reduce rolling resistance. Goodyear says a reduction of up to 26% over their previous trailer tyre model is possible and when combined with LHS II and LHD II steer and drive tyres claims a total rolling resistance reduction of 10% on a typical 40 tonne GVW truck Marathon LHT Ils are also 7.5 kg lighter than the previous Goodyear trailer tyre, which increases payload, but have been made stronger from a more damage resistant carcass that is capable of being regrooved and retreaded several times.
