OUTPUT rose by an average of 303 commercial vehicles a week during July, as compared with June. The number and value of vehicles exported were slightly lower. July production averaged 5,014 vehicles a week (4,711 a week in June) and of the total of 20,054 units built, 10,872 were for export and 9,182 for the home market.
Of the 19,063 goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special vehicles constructed in July, 9,801 had a carrying capacity of under 15 cwt., 8,234 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons, and 1,028 over 6 tons. Altogether, 855 motorbuses and trolleybuses were built, consisting of 653 single-deck and 199 double-deck motorbuses, and three trolleybuses. The month's output was completed by 136 battery-electrics.
Production in the first seven months of the year rose to 154,654 units (96,159 for export and 58,495 for the home market). The 147,149 goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types were divided as follows:Under 15 cwt., 72,219; 15 cwt. to 6 tons, 68,517; over 6 tons, 6,413. The 6,748 motorbuses and trolleybuses consisted of 5,054 single-deck and 1,616 doubledeck motorbuses and 78 trolleybuses. Figures issued by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that 757 battery-electrics and 280 pedestriancontrolled electric vehicles were manufactured.
In the first six months of the year, 3,461 works trucks were built.
Excluding dumpers and industrial trucks, for which no figures are available, 11,247 vehicles were exported in July. The value of exports, including dumpers and industrial trucks, was £5,965,216. The figures for June were 11,318 and £6,155,702 respectively.
During the first seven months of the year, 84,143 vehicles, apart from dumpers and industrial trucks, were exported, the value of shipments, including dumpers and industrial trucks, being £42,047,344.
In addition, 1,679 used commercial vehicles (1967,041), 67,043 agricultural tractors (124,768,517), and parts and accessories to the value of £42,982,194 were sent overseas,
