• The annual report of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers, which will be presented to the members on October 19, shows an increase of 595 in the membership over last year. With the election of Lord Chesham as Fellow, the Honorary Fellows' list now stands at 30.
The Mackenzie Junner Award was withheld this year by the papers committee despite the fact that the members considered that a number of commendable papers had been submitted. The National Diploma was awarded to T. H. Duncalfe for his paper on -Planned Maintenance and Vehicle Replacement Policiesand to Dr E. Hundt for his paper on "Commercial Vehicles for the Greater Europe".
When he addressed the council last week, Lord Chesham said that the finances made sense, with the Institute showing a small credit balance.
The retiring president is keen that the voice of the Road Transport Engineers should Teak with even more authority than at present, and moves to achieve this end are likely to begin following the agm.
