by Charlotte Kirkbright • Truck drivers may be asked to voluntarily avoid rural roads in Oxfordshire because of the damage the local authority believes is being caused by heavy vehicles.
The county council is considering putting up advisory signs around north Oxfordshire villages but they will not be legallyenforceable.
The council says this is the first time the county has proposed using advisory signs instead of legal restrictions.
One reason for the move is that fewer signs will have to be put up, which will mean a cash saving.
Truck surveys are to be carried out before the signs go up and again once they have been installed.
