The company has been trading for more than 10 years and holds sales on two Wednesdays a month with a throughput of 160-200 trucks and 80-150 trailers.
Managing director Chris Wright says: "The 7.5-tonne Cargo is more plentiful than the Super Cargo. Although Iveco has a popular middleweight model, in this part of the country we tend to see more Dafs coming back onto the market.
"In general 4x2 rigids have a longer first life than tractive units," he points out. "Most are still bought outright, but even operators who take them on lease more often than not run them on for an extra couple of years. "Although we do see two and three-yearold models, the majority coming up for auction are five to 10 years old," he adds. "Most have day cabs, and curtain-sided bodies account for around 70% of the market; boxes run at about 20% and flats, skips and tippers the remaining 10%.
"Sleeper cabs at 17/18 tonnes are fairly rare, but even after three years they carry a strong premium of about 22,500," Wright reports. "The 230hp models are more popular with box and curtainsiders but 180hp is still more than acceptable with flat bodies as well as with other bodies when the truck is used for local operation.
"At the moment 4x2 rigids are selling well," he concludes. "You can expect to pay 28,500-9,000 for a three-year-old Super Cargo fitted with a flat body, and add an extra £1,000 for a curtainsider." •
