THE MIDST of the commerial vehicle depression comes ood news for Seddon Atkinon, the Oldham-based manu3cturer of heavy lorries, which as just received its highest lumber of orders for 18 months. During the first three weeks of lugust, Seddon took orders for 30 heavy vehicles, with the argest order from any one firm )eing 12. The reason for this inerest, says Seddon, is renewed :onfidence from some parts of ndustry.
Just six months ago, Seddon aced serious financial difficulty ind closed its plant at Preston with the loss of 800 jobs, and .here were grave doubts whether Seddon would survive he recession.
Now it seems their problems are over. Employees formerly ',forking short-time shifts have now returned to a five-day week, and International Harvester, Seddon's American parent, has been able to pay off some of Seddon's debts.
