The Aberdeen Brigade.

A report from the firemaster was recently submitted to the Lighting and Fires Committee of the Aberdeen Town Council with reference to the proposed purchase of a motor turbine fire-engine. The matter was deferred for a month in order to enable the mes members of the committee to become thoroughly acquainted with the facts and get more information generally.

Weston-super-Mare Considers the Adoption of Motor Fire-plant.

At a meeting of the Water, Fire Extinction and Water-supply Committee of the Weston-super-Mare Council, on the 7th inst., a letter was read from Dr. G. H. Temple, the Chief Officer of the Fire Brigade, in reference to its present imperfect equipment, and its inability to turn out quickly. He suggested the adoption of motor appliances. A sub-committee, consisting of councillors Ring, Bere and the chairman (Councillor Jones) was appointed to consider the matter and report to the council. A Hand.-cart Motor Fire.-pump.

An interesting little fire-fighting plant is illustrated on this page. It is a type of which many might be pressed

into service, by rural and district councils, for emergency use. This little outfit is one which is constructed by the de-Dion Company. It has a singlecylinder 8 h.p. engine, which is directcoupled to a rotary pump, capable of delivering 3,300 gallons of water an hour. The engine, pump and accessories are mounted on a suitable base on a hand-cart, which may be drawn by a couple of firemen. County Fire.-Brigade Scheme.

The Upper District Committee of Renfrewshire is setting an example to many other county committees in the

matter of establishing motor firefighting plant, and it has just issued a report on its scheme for providing the necessary apparatus in that part of the county under its jurisdiction_ This district has been divided into the following areas: (1) North Renfrew, comprising the portion of the parish of Renfrew north of the Clyde. Arrangements have been made with the town councils of Partick and Clydebank for securing the services of the fire brigades of those burghs for extinguishing fires within the areas. (2) The main area, comprising the parishes of Cathcart, Eastwood, Neilstone, Mourns, Eaglesham, and a portion of the Abbey parish east of Paisley and including the burgh of Pollokshaws. This area will be served by a petrol motor fire engine to be kept at a convenient station, probably at Pollokshows. The arrangement with the burgh of Pollokshaws provides that the district fire brigade shall be available for service in that burgh. (3) Paisley, etc., area, being the remainder of the upper district, comprising the portion of the Abbey parish to the south and west of Paisley and the portion of Renfrew parish west of the burgh of Renfrew. Complete arrangements have not been made as regards the equipment of this area further, but an order has been placed with Merryweather and Sans. Ltd., for a petrol motor fire-engine of 70-75 h.p., at a cost of 0,409.
