ROAD TRANSPORT operators could be paid up to £2,500 by the Government to hire and train long-term unemployed candidates. according to an initiative launched by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
The £500rn scheme is intended to put at least 500,000 of the current 1.8m unemployed back to work, and includes funding for training or startup businesses.Trades unions, though, are calling for increased protection to he given to existing jobs, with business and employers' trade associations reminding the Government that many fundamentally sound businesses are still suffering due to a lack of available credit and liquidity in the market.
