We have reached the end of the road

At first I considered David Williams' letter (CM15-21 July) to be too aggressive in haranguing the Department of Transport and the trade associations.
Transport has been at the butt end of inappropriate and costly legislation and a lack of facilities for so long now that it seems pointless to complain. But after some thought though, I believe "Mr Angry" from Port Talbot has a valid point and the timing is right.
There are an increasing number of articles and letters in the trade press from many people experiencing the difficulties of road transport operations who are trying to do something constructive about these industry-wide problems. Len Clementi—who has worked tirelessly—is just one example. But what does he achieve: does anyone at the DOT listen to him?
Something has to give soon. We may not see a French blockade but if the many vehement "enough is enough" individuals in road transport get together to vent their feelings there will be a big bang and trucks and their importance to this country will become fi out-page news.
To move away from sensible dialogue is a dangerous act. Better that the DOT seizes the initiative and to listens to the industry before that day of reckoning
