If you were in the Southampton area around the beginning of July, looked up into the sky and thought what you were seeing was the result of too many sherbets the night before, then let me put your mind at rest. This Ford Transit Hot Air Balloon was launched at the Southampton Balloon festival, by Ford and RAC motoring Services, over the "birthplace" of the Ford Transit. The RAC purchases between 200-250 new Transits every year and currently has around 1,000 vehicles. Mike Platts, manager, commercial vehicles at Ford, saw the launch of the balloon as "a great way to celebrate both a long and successful relationship with the RAC as well as the Transit's heritage".
The hot air replica was built by Bristol-based Cameron Balloons arid holds 105,000ft3 of air, stands 70ft high and is 80ft long. Some anorak has worked out that there's enough room inside to park 36 Transits or 216 vans if they were stacked on top of one another. Not dissimilar to multi-story car parks in central London then, which certainly know a thing or two about sky high prices!
