In the same week that the Government again refused to acknowledge the crisis in the haulage industry, another wellestablished haulier decided that enough is enough.

Last Friday, just days after the second Industry Forum offered no hope to hauliers, Doncaster-based CUD Gill Transport went into voluntary liquidation. It Is selling its 34

tractors and 45 trailers, and laying off 34 drivers as well as garage and office staff.

"It's very sad for me and the rest of the staff," says managing director David Gill. "The business has been going for 25 years but it's just not worth continuing. We can't make it pay—we're running at a loss every month."

Increasing fuel prices meant Gill could never recover from the BSE crisis. In addition to animal byproducts the company carried bulk and general haulage.

"The Government should pay more attention to what's going on instead of just burying their heads in the sand." says Gill. "The haulage industry is very important to Britain and we deserve better treatment."
